I want to make a special announcement about the upcoming IDEA
Conference in November and I want to invite all American debate
educators and students to consider attending. The dates are November
11, 2005 - November 13, 2005.
It is the premier way to begin networking with the international
debate community. In one weekend you can meet and interact with
representatives of many, many countries from all over the world. The
conference features panels, workshops, and even some debates on
subjects relevant to our work.
I am coordinating the program and I am committed to helping Americans
who want to participate. In another week I will be distributing a
list of possible panels for you to consider. In the meantime, I urge
anyone interested to get in touch with me and offer me a description
or abstract of a presentation. We can consider it and then get back
to you with a formal letter of acceptance so hat you can seek funds
from your university or other sponsor. I will work to find an
appropriate panel or workshop to involve you in. Write to me now so
we can get started on this. Debate has gone international, and so you
need to attend international conventions as well as the same old
national ones.
The conference will be in Estonia, a lovely Baltic state with lots of
debate involvement. The debate NGO in Estonia was recently named the
top NGO in the country. It is a lovely place and while modern it has
an intense historical charm. Find out more at

Full details can be found at the IDEA website,

Travel can be easier than you think. I just looked up NYC-London on
the relevant dates and found tickets for as low as $268. Easyjet
flight from London to Talinn, Estonia was 19.99 UK pounds, and the
flight back was 9.99 UK pounds. How about this route, fly from NYC
to Helsinki, Finland ($655 non stop, $526 one stop) and then take the
jet ferry from Helsinki to Estonia! If you act early this can be
cheap! Let your department know that!
See you in Talinn!
