2005 and Estonia is the place for the gathering of debate training and promotion
advocates. Why Estonia? It's debate organization was named as the best NGO in
the country. This Baltic nation has a lot to offer, as you can see at
http://www.visitestonia.com/.

The committe for programming at the IDEA Conference in Estonia requests that you
consider the following areas for your proposals. Please indicate your areas of
interest to us.

+++Debate and deliberative learning across the curriculum
New reports from the field about how this technique is successful or
unsuccessful.

+++Prepared vs. impromptu motions/topics
A challenge to defend one or the other or suggest an effeective merger of the
two.

+++Debate and citizenship
Reports on how debate activities are promoting open societies through individual
participation.

+++Debate and personal responsibilities
How to balance debate activities with personal and family responsibilities.

+++How do we train?
An invitation to countries and organizations to submit their training programs
to analysis by a group of repondents in the hope of sharing "best practices."

+++Outreach
Reports of debate being brought to new places in a local context.

+++Using media and new technology
Reports on television, radio, videotape and other technologies used for debate
purposes.

+++Debate in the Blogosphere
Using newly emerging text and video "blogging" techniques in the field of debate
promotion, training and sustainment.

+++Debaters and careers
Debate programs in the IDEA network have come of age. Most have former students
who have moved on. An invitation to countries to come and exchange anecdotal
evidence about the kinds of careers and futures debaters in specific countries
have followed.

+++Middle school debate
The middle grades are becoming a more fertile ground for debate promotion.
Reports and evaluations welcome.

+++Public debate
Taking debate beyond a competitive framework and into a far more important one
-- involving the public in debate processes and thus building grassroots
democracy.

+++Crisis of assessment
Many believe that debate training is "good." But where is the evidence? How can
we move forward if we cannot prove that what we offer has real advantages? Are
there real results? Join this very important discussion.

+++Other panels and topics you suggest
Let us know what you would like to engage a global audience about.
