Hi, It's my sad duty to inform the debate community of the passing of Lt. Col. Roger E. Reeder at the age of 92. Col. Reeder was the debate coach at T. A. Edison High School in Alexandria, Virginia, from 1962-1979. I'm sure many on this list would remember sending teams to, or competing at, the Reeder tournament at Edison, one of the big national circuit affairs of the 70's, 80's and early 90's. His dedication to and enthusiasm for debate, judging the final round of the Reeder tournament for many years after his retirement from active coaching, will be missed.

"If all mankind minus one were of one opinion and only one person were of the contrary opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that person that he, if he had the power, would be in silencing mankind
If the opinion is right, they are deprived of the opportunity of exchanging error for truth; if wrong, they lose, what is almost as great a benefit, the clearer perception and livelier impression of truth, produced by its collision with error." John S. Mill
